Sew Fantastic

I wrote a post recently about the importance of Finding Your Passion – as a busy parent it’s important to have something that you love to do outside of parenting (you can love doing that too!) just to keep your brain working and keep some passion alive for hobbies or projects that resonate with you for whatever reason, this could be via voluntary work, reading a book, visiting a tea shop with a friend, or rediscovering an old skill.

I’ve always loved to sew, and although time and energy are against me I’m making a real effort to find a way to incorporate that into my life. One brilliant way is that a friend who runs Sewing Belle, is now branching out into workshops and courses! I’m hoping to do a mixture of teaching and learning to share my love of patchwork, upcycling and recycling and also to learn new skills – I might make a Superwoman costume for me and my three girls…

Students from the workshops talk about the relaxation of finding their ‘flow’, being totally absorbed in a pleasure project –

there are also great benefits from friendly social interaction, laughter and learning. Some of the workshops are even free!

Attending a workshop, or just dusting off an old hobby you’ve put in the attic may be the #selfcareseptember starter to a new you, and it will certainly support wellbeing. Try to find something that has no urgent purpose – you may enjoy making your own Christmas Cards, and it will certainly save you money but keep in mind that the purpose of self care is to look after you, not add to  your ‘to do’ list…
