There are tons of things to do for FREE all around us, if you need some inspiration you can try our friends at WikiPlacesforKids for ideas that have already been tried and tested by real families, you can also check out Money Saving Expert which has a school holiday help forum with lots of free ideas. Just look up your County online and you should find the local tourism board which will list lots of activities in the area, you may also have other ‘Visit X’ websites with great information.

This is where I get the low down of what’s going on locally for free, I find I need to double check them all as some events will be everywhere and some only on one of the sites. Pretend your house is a holiday cottage and think how you would find out what to do, sometimes we have things right on our doorstep we’ve never done!

Over the Summer you are likely to find…

  • open air events
  • free children’s events
  • family fun days
  • charity events with low entrance costs
  • local festivals
  • kids go free – check local transport for the Summer e.g. ScotRail kids go free in August
  • swimming – check local council leisure centres, many have free swimming for under 16’s

More specifically:

Library Reading Challenge

Open Gardens Scheme

London Theatre Kids Week

In return for our review of the new Hopster App on Amazon Kindle’s we’ve also got a one month free subscription for all our readers!

If you’d like to get one month free of the App you can sign up using that link (the code is already in it, but if you have any problems it’s AMAZON1M).

It should last most of the holiday xx
