7. Clear Out

When you’ve written your list of things to buy, just remember that you may already have quite a lot of stuff scattered around the house (and garden?!), for example we have the worlds supply of pens and crayons mostly kept under the sofa… rather than buying a load for the Summer I got a pot and started to collect them all up – ready for great fun colouring later.

You may have some old kid magazines that you can just cut out a few undone activities out of and put in your box. Everything will be useful I promise, especially on a rainy day or when you just want to get out a quiet activity. Get rid of the bits you can’t use – this is a good time to sort while you find, e.g. I’m trying all the pens I come across and binning those that can’t be saved. At the end of this process you will have more of a feel of what you already have before you go shopping. Things to start collecting into your box:

  • magazines
  • pens
  • glue, tape,
  • scissors
  • scrap paper
  • odds and bits from party bags that still work
  • badges
  • rulers
  • colouring books
  • sticker books
  • library cards
  • loyalty vouchers/cards
  • discount vouchers
